Students in rural areas frequently grow-up in impoverished neighborhoods and attended primary and secondary schools that are far less well equipped to educate them than schools attended by the other privileged urban peers. Indeed, the significant financial, cultural and social barrier to accessing higher education is faced by the poor. The student beneficiaries of UHET get placed in various colleges across Tamil Nadu and neighboring states. Majority of them are from remote villages and their medium of instruction in school has always been Tamil. Thus UHET imparts a number of Capacity Buildingprograms for the students to cope with learning practice and enhance their competences. The focus is on building self-esteem and self-confidence, developing the ability to take on responsibility for self, relationships and (to an extent) society.
